We have a responsibility as a parish family to help one another grow in Faith. We do this in our own families for our children and for one another. There are special times when we may need a little help. Preparation for the Sacraments is one such time. Helping children to come to the Sacraments for the first time is an important time for them and for the parish. Likewise, welcoming new members into the family of the Faith, into a parish community, is a responsibility for the Parish. |

BAPTISM The Baptism Group visits families in preparation for the Sacrament of Baptism, to make contact with them and let them know what is involved and how they can participate in the celebration of their baby’s Baptism. They also help in the rehearsal and the Ceremony itself. Mrs Tessa Albanese 265982. BECOMING A CATHOLIC (RCIA) To prepare adults to be welcomed into full communion with the Church, a special programme of meetings is available called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). Suitable for those who have expressed an interest in becoming Catholics it provides an opportunity for faith sharing with Catechists and sponsors. While it involves a small group in the meetings, ideally the whole parish community is involved, through their interest, prayer and friendship. The journey towards full communion with the Church is linked very closely with the seasons of the Church’s liturgical year. See the St Alban’s RCIA page for more information. The group of Catechists who help adults interested in becoming Catholics and following through the RCIA is co-ordinated by Mary Maxwell on 425867. CATECHESIS FOR THOSE WITH SPECIAL NEEDS The group for children and adults with learning difficulties meets on the first Saturday of the month from October to July at 11am in the Parish Centre for fellowship, and to prepare the liturgy for the midday Mass in Church. Members are encouraged to participate fully in the life of the Church and when needed members are supported in preparation for the Sacraments. For further information contact at 9am each weekday morning before the 9.30am Mass. Cyril and Barrie Towse, Tel. 424917 CONFIRMATION In this Diocese the Sacrament of Confirmation is offered to young people in the second year of Secondary Education. Preparation for the reception of this Sacrament is parish based and the programme runs from January to June. A team of Catechists help the candidates, as well as their parents to prepare for this important stage in their Christian life. Information about any aspect of the programme can be obtained here or from Julie Bedigan or 613192. FIRST HOLY COMMUNION AND FORGIVENESS All parents of children preparing for First Forgiveness and Communion are asked to attend five evening meetings, spread out over the preparation time. Children are prepared at St. Alban’s School for reception of the Sacraments. Preparation sessions are offered to children attending other schools. Contact Carla Read-Shaw Tel. 828152. |
